Lesson Notes: October 4, 2009
Sunday October 4, 2009
Day 1 Recap: Deut. 16:12-17 Celebrating the Feast of Tabernacles
God calls us apart (invites us) to worship Him and enjoy fellowship with Him. He wants us to enter into a deeper relationship with Him. He called us away from the normal reminders of our work life and gave us a special time to together in a way that we cannot experience the rest of the year. He gave us this special time to recharge our spiritual batteries; to receive wonderful spiritual meals – food to strengthen us on our journey.
Day 2 Recap: Hosea 10:12 A Spiritual Revival
We have fallen away; A Spiritual Revival is needed; Requirements for Revival:
2 Chron. 7:12 – 16 (Focus vs. 14) : A people called by God’s Name; Humility first; get ride of pride and then Prayer second; Seek God’s face – strip bare before Him; Turn from your wicked ways: unless you turn, your faith is lacking conviction
Hosea 10:12 Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.
Ps. 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit…;
Habakkuk 3:2 …O Lord, revive your work in the midst of the years ….in wrath, remember mercy.
Day 3 Recap: Exodus 4:10-13 God wants to use us (Focus on the men of the Assembly); Men are called to step up and work. Make a commitment. Be faithful and obedient like Abraham. Like Moses, no matter what your situation, God can fix it. He has the answers. Like Solomon, ask God for wisdom and understanding.
Women are encouraged to treat the man of God well ( 2Kings 4: 9-10.).
Day 4 Sunday October 4, 2009: TEXT: 1 Sam. 16: 1-13 A Fresh Anointing:
Reference: Exodus 30: 22-33 The Holy Anointing Oil
An anointing has to do with a mission or special office or duty. It’s an act of consecration or a seal of approval. The anointing is the presence of the Holy Spirit being poured upon someone, imparting supernatural strength, which enables the individual to perform a special task or function in an office he/she is called and appointed to. In ancient times, God would choose a person and anoint him to stand in the office of a prophet, or priest or king.
Review the story of David’s anointing in 1 Sam. 16:1-13.
Jesus is our Model: Matt. 3: 1-17 (see vs. 16,17)
Luke 4:18,19: The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent me to heal the broken hearted ……………..
God wants to do a great work among us and we must be anointed for the mission. The anointing is for service to the King of Kings; to enable us to do God’s will, not to please an organization, or man, but to carry out God’s mission for our lives.
We have to walk in the anointing. Otherwise, we will be no match for the devil. Acts 19:13-15 (see vs. 15) the evil spirits answered - Jesus I know and Paul I Know, but who are you?
They are imitators who try to merchandise the anointing with no effect; but those who are truly anointed by God will bring life to others. The anointing is not common or cheap. It is valuable. God gave us a picture in Ex. 30; 22-25 where He told Moses to make a holy anointing oil.
The anointing is a sign of God’s approval. Signs of the anointing will include:
Submission to God; Humility; Commitment and dedication to the service of God; Total obedience to God; Fulfillment of your ministry; Joy in serving the Lord; A wilderness experience where you may lose your reputation among friends or be forsaken by others because of the call to serve God.
Whenever we spend time in the presence of God, in communion with Him, we come out with fresh anointing – energized to go and serve Him.
The Blessings of a fresh anointing:
Favor with God. ( Only God can grant us the anointing of the Holy Spirit)
Promotion (Ps. 75:6,7 Promotion comes not from the east or west, nor from the south; but God is the judge…..
Discernment: Rev 3: 18 Anoint your eyes with eye salve that you may see
Greater power for service
Productivity: Ps. 92: 12-14 The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree; he shall grow like the cedars in Lebanon. Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing.
Have a wonderful Feast of Tabernacles
and may God richly bless you. |
